Video Shows Attack of Texas Deputy Constable
Surveillance video shows the moments in which a Texas deputy constable was critically wounded in an ambush attack late Wednesday night.
Harris County Precinct 7 Deputy Constable Alden Clopton was showing a trainee how to operate the dashboard camera in her cruiser following a traffic stop when a gunman opened fire without warning shortly before midnight, according to KPRC-TV.
The video shows Clopton standing on the passenger's side of Reserve Deputy Trainee Anne Glasco's patrol car with the door open when the suspect approached the deputy constable from behind and fired six times.
Clopton -- who was wearing his ballistic vest -- was hit four times in his chest and stomach area. Glasco fired once at the gunman, who fled the scene.
Paramedics can be seen loading Clopton onto a stretcher before transporting him the hospital where he underwent nearly eight hours of surgery.
Clopton is recovering in the shock trauma ICU at Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute and is now listed in serious condition.
Family members told the news station that he is alert and speaking and is expected to make a full recovery, though he may need to remain in the hospital for another week.
Police are investigating a possible motive and said that while no arrests have been made, they are looking into several leads.
