Washington State Patrol troopers and a driver came to the rescue of an injured bald eagle after it was struck Tuesday morning.
A truck driver was traveling on Highway 16 near Tremont Avenue in Port Orchard around 7:30 a.m. when the eagle flew too low and collided with the vehicle, according to KOMO-TV.
Trooper Russ Winger said the impact damaged the truck's windshield and that the driver was able to pull over to check on the bird.
The eagle was injured and in shock but still conscious and alert.
"The gentleman, he felt bad for it so he picked it up and held it," Winger said.
Troopers arrived on scene and the truck driver took the eagle into the cab of his truck while he waited for a wildlife agent to arrive.
The eagle was transported to a wildlife rehabilitation facility on Bainbridge Island where he is recovering.
