Ala. Officer, Suspect Wounded in Shooting

A Mobile officer and a suspect were wounded in a shooting during an altercation Friday morning.

A Mobile, Alabama police officer and a suspect were wounded in a shooting early Friday morning.

A member of the Mobile County Street Narcotics Enforcement Team was performing an operation in the area of 9100 Grand Bay Wilmer Road when gunfire was exchanged around 3 a.m., according to AL.com.

The officer was shot twice during a physical altercation with the suspect, who was wounded after other officers returned fire, Mobile police spokesman Terence Perkins told the news outlet.

The officer underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery while the suspect is listed in critical condition.

The identities of the officer and the suspect have not yet been released and charges against the suspect are pending.
