A Boston motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a crash during a motorcade for Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi Thursday morning.

A Boston motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a crash during a motorcade Thursday morning.

Officer James Scopa was assigned to the motorcade escorting Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi when the crash occurred on O'Brien Highway around 10:15 a.m., according to WCVB-TV.

Scopa's motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Subaru wagon near the Museum of Science.

The officer was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries and was later released.

The crash is currently under investigation.
