Two NYPD Emergency Service officers saved a teen who was threatening to jump from the Manhattan Bridge Saturday afternoon.
Detective John DiGregorio and Officer Michael Urbanek spotted the 17-year-old on the bridge after responding to a 911 call reporting the suicide attempt, according to a department news release.
The teenage was standing on the wrought iron fence and holding the chain-link fence while leaning back.
The officers were able to develop a connection with the young man who expressed his concerns to them. They promised they would get him the help he needed.
DiGregorio offered to climb out to where the teen was standing to continue talking and help bring him to safety, but before do so, the distraught teen climbed back to where the officers could secure him.
The teen was then transported to a local hospital for treatment.
