Wounded Ind. Deputy Released From Hospital

Howard County Sheriff's Sgt. Jordan Buckley was wounded in a weekend shooting that left Deputy Carl Koontz dead.

A Howard County, Indiana Sheriff's sergeant who was wounded in a weekend shooting that left a deputy dead was released from the hospital Monday afternoon.

Sgt. Jordan Buckley was shot in the upper thigh during a shooting with Evan Dorsey while serving an arrest warrant early Sunday morning, according to WXIN-TV.

Deputy Carl Koontz, a 3-year veteran of the department, succumbed to his wounds after undergoing surgery at IU Health Methodist Hospital, where both him and Buckley were flown after initially being transported to Howard Regional Hospital.

Both law enforcement officers attempted to make contact with the suspect when no one responded as they announced themselves at the residence. Upon entering, they were met with gunfire and they fired back. A Russiaville police officer and other deputies pulled their wounded colleagues to safety

"We are ready to bring Jordan home," Sheriff Steve Rogers said during a news conference.

Buckley, who was just promoted to sergeant last week, will be riding along in the police procession to bring Koontz's body home to Kokomo, Indiana.
