Two Good Samaritans were recognized this week for assisting an injured Washington State Patrol trooper along the highway.
Chief John Batiste presented the "Chief's Coin" to Nathan Redman and Jason Cullen at the District 2 Headquarter in Bellevue on Tuesday, according to a news release.
The two men came to the aid of Trooper Tommie Pillow after he was involved in motorcycle wreck along Route 520 on Feb. 23.
The injured trooper was lying along the highway when the men stopped their pickup truck and blocked traffic to protect him from being hit and moved his motorcycle to the shoulder.
"AsI was sliding down the road I remember thinking I better get up and out of the way before I get run over. I was so relieved to see the truck you guys were in blocking both lanes," Pillow told the men.
Pillow and his wife were both on hand to personally thank the men.
"My wife says you two were my guardian angels," he said. "I've been doing this for over 31 years and it's great to find people like you two are still around."
Both Redman and Cullen said they were just glad they could lend a hand.
"We are so glad we were in a position to act quickly on your behalf," Redman, who happens to be the son of District 7 Chaplain Martin Redman, said. "You have been in our thoughts since and hope you have a speedy recovery."
