A theft victim who pursued the suspects in South Carolina will now be hired by the Spartan County Sheriff's Office.
Cody Bolt told deputies that he was in pursuit of three men in a truck whom he had seen stealing his trailer and the tools inside of it, according to WYFF-TV.
As the 22-year-old continued to chase the red Chevrolet Silverado, the suspects fired several shots at him. Deputies soon caught up to the truck and pursued it as it drove through a field.
Austin Turner, and Kenneth McDowell were arrested nearby and charged with grand larceny while the third suspect remained on the lose. Turner and McDowell implicated Gabriel Barnette in the theft and was found a short time later at a home in Campobello.
Investigators said Barnette admitted to driving the truck and to firing a 9 mm pistol at Bolt.
Barnette was charged with grand larceny, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging a firearm into a vehicle and attempted murder.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Bolt already had an application in at the Sheriff’s Office before the incident and that the young man "has charisma and has guts and is the kind of person we want here."
