A group of NYPD officers in Brooklyn saved a half-dozen kittens found trapped in a suitcase last week.

The officers responded to a report of a half-opened suitcase sitting in the parking lot of 373 Wythe Avenue around 7:30 a.m. March 10 when they made the discovery, according to The New York Post.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they found seven kittens inside the abandoned suitcase, one of which had died.

The six surviving cats were taken to the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition where it was determined they were between one and two weeks old and treated them for undernourishment.

The veterinarians also treated one of the kittens treated for a bloody ear.

Upon viewing surveillance footage from the building, police saw a man toss the suitcase over a wall and into the parking lot before walking away around 1:30 a.m. the same day the officers found it..

The New York Police Department's animal cruelty squad is currently investigating the incident.
