A Pennsylvania State Police trooper has been awarded more than $1.4 million in damages for injuries he sustained when a drunk driver slammed into his cruiser nearly eight years ago.
Sgt. Michael J. Chambers was monitoring a construction zone on Route 422 in Montgomery County around 3:20 a.m. on May 31, 2008, when Philadelphia resident James Mu Lin, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry while intoxicated, crashed into him, according to The Mercury.
Chambers filed the lawsuit in 2010 against Lin, and Glasgow Inc., the firm that was involved in the construction project.
The trooper's lawyer, Cary Bevan McClain, said that his client he was "ecstatic" about the outcome of the case.
"My client is satisfied but in these injury cases there is no amount of money that can ever make you whole." he told the newspaper. "He was elated that he was able to tell his story and that the case had finally come to a conclusion and justice was served."
Chambers suffered "serious, painful injuries," including herniated discs, a concussion and headaches, according to the lawsuit. He continues to work for the state police in a supervisory role in King of Prussia.
Court documents show that the jury awarded damages for the trooper's past and future medical expenses, lost earnings, pain and suffering and loss of life's pleasures.
