A deputy is Washington County, Arkansas is expected to survive after he was shot and wounded by a suicidal man Wednesday.
Lt. Tion Augustine underwent surgery after being shot by Raymond Lee Plumlee around 1:18 p.m., accoridng to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
About five police officers and deputies went to the home of the 24-year-old suspect after calls from family members that he was armed and suicidal when they heard mulipule gunshots from the woods behind the home.
When they neared the woods, Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Sgt. Craig Stout says Plumlee opened fire on the law enforcmeent officers through the bushes.
Augustine was struck and fell to the ground before other officers pulled him to safety and called for assistance.
Plumlee was taken into custody and deputies found a shotgun and several spent shells. He was charged with four counts of attempted capital murder, five counts of terroristic threatening, first-degree battery and second-degree battery.
Augustine was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center and is expected to recover from his injuries.
The case remains under investigation.
