Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff's officials say that a deputy was justified in a weekend shooting that left a pit bull dead in Mesa.

Two body camera videos were played during a press conference on Tuesday that showed the dog advancing on a deputy as he was serving a search warrant at a home, according to KNXV-TV.

The pit bull, named Blue, ran from inside the home and toward the deputy before the deputy fired a single shot, wounding the dog.

The dog can be seen returning to the house after being shot in the video.

A deputy is heard saying that he shot the dog because he was worried it was going to attack his partner.

The dog's owners sought justice after confirming on Sunday that it had died from its injuries. They claimed that the dog was discriminated against because of his breed

"He didn't come straight at these guys," Debbie Holm said. "He went all the way around the cars and he was outside and his little butt was wagging. He wasn't being threatening of any sort."

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the dog "was in the wrong place at the wrong time" and that the the incident probably wouldn't have occurred if it was contained.

While Maricopa County Sheriff's officials have closed the case after reviewing the video, the dog's owners say they plan to talk to an attorney.
