A police officer in Battle Creek, Michigan had a close call when a driver opened fire on him at close range during a traffic stop over the weekend.

Dashcam video released Monday shows Officer Brad Gentry pull over a car driven by 21-year-old Darriyone Zamone Clark-Brown around 3:12 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Hubbard Street and West Goodale Avenue, according to WOOD-TV.

As the officer approaches the driver's window, he says "What's up, man," before officials say Clark-Brown fired a single shot near Gentry's head.

The bullet missed the officer, but a went temporarily deaf and can be seen stumbling back in the video as the gunman speeds away.

Gentry returns fire at the fleeing vehicle as he shouts "shots fired, shots fired," into his radio.

As he purses the suspect, he describes to car and tells dispatchers "He shot me, I'm not hit."

The suspect led police on an about four-minute car chase through a residential neighborhood that reached speeds of up to 70 mph. He would eventually abandon his vehicle and take off on foot dropping his gun into a snow bank before holing up in his mother's home on West Coolidge Street, about a mile from where the traffic stop happened.

A standoff ensued and came to an end around 7 p.m. when a police K-9 bit him.

Clark-Brown was taken to a local hospital to be checked out and was arraigned Monday on several charges including attempted murder.
