An Oregon trooper rescued a 5-year-old girl from a burning motor home with the help of two Good Samaritans Wednesday afternoon.

State police officials said that the motor home burst into flames after its driver crashed into a parked tractor-trailer near the Oak Grove Rest Area on Interstate 5 north of Eugene shortly before 5 p.m., according to KGW-TV.

A trooper spotted the crash, which had not yet been reported, and heard the girl crying for help after he yelled into the wreckage. Lt. Bill Fugate said that the trooper used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames and broke through the side of the motor home with the help of two civilians to rescue her.

The driver of the motor home, identified as 69-year-old Sandra C. Bishop, and a passenger, and a passenger, identified as 26-year-old Michael Bunten, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The girl was transported to a hospital in Springfield where she was treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was asleep in the cab during the crash, was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
