Denver Police Officer Wounded; Suspect Dead

Officer Rachel Eid suffered a gunshot wound to her left leg during a shootout with a fleeing burglary suspect Monday afternoon.

A Denver police officer was wounded in a shootout with a fleeing burglary suspect Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at West 37th Avenue and Grove Street around 1:25 p.m. and stopped two suspects, KMGH-TV.

One of the suspects was taken into custody immediately, but the other suspect ran off and was chased by two officers.

Officer Rachel Eid and the other officer confronted the suspect and were involved in an exchange of gunfire. Eid was shot in the left leg and was transported to a local hospital in fair condition.

The fleeing suspect continued running and carjacked a vehicle near 32nd and Lowell. Police then pursued the stolen vehicle before the suspect lost the control and was stopped.

There was a second exchange of gunfire between the suspect and the officers in which the suspect was shot and killed.

The incident is currently under investigation.
