Georgia Deputy Ejected From Cruiser in Crash

Pickens County Sgt. Rick Hales was injured after being ejected from his cruiser in a collision with another vehicle on Hwy 515 Sunday morning.

A Pickens County, Georgia Sheriff's deputy was injured after he was ejected from his cruiser during a crash Sunday morning.

Sgt. Rick Hales was airlifted to Kennestone Hospital and was alert and conscious following the crash with another vehicle on Highway 515 near Noah Drive, according to a department news release.

As of Sunday night, Hales was still in the ICU being evaluated with a broken femur and checked for other possible injuries.

"From Rick and his family, thank you! I had the opportunity to share how many of you guys are praying with him tonight and his eyes lit up.... he wants you all to know how much it means," Sheriff Donnie Craig said in a post on the department's Facebook page.

The other driver was also transported to an Atlanta Hospital in serious condition.

The Georgia State Patrol's accident reconstruction team is currently investigating the crash.
