A Sumter County, S.C. Sheriff's deputy received traffic news after responding to the scene of a fatal crash Wednesday morning when he found out that one of the victims was his wife.
The deputy was the dispatched to the collision that occurred around 9 a.m. on Lewis Road, according to WIS-TV.
Sumter County Deputy Coroner Rob Lybrand said that 45-year-old Teresa Browder died in the crash. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office confirmed Browder was the wife of a deputy who responded to the crash.
Officials said that Browder was on her way to meet her husband, who was just two minutes away.
"Today was a tragic day for one of our officers, as well as our entire agency, as one of our family members deals with the loss of a loved one," Sheriff's Spokesman Braden Bunch said. "We ask you keep the Browder family in your thoughts and prayers as they cope with this horrible tragedy."
Browder was driving an SUV and was wearing a seat belt, but died of blunt force trauma from the impact. Two other people involved in the crash were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
Browder worked as a nurse at Clarendon Memorial Hospital and is survived by her husband and three daughters, ages 12, 14, and 18.
Her funeral is scheduled for Monday at Grace Baptist Church in Sumter.
