A Jefferson Parish, Louisiana Sheriff's Office motorcycle deputy struck and injured a fellow deputy who was directing traffic Sunday near the Superdome in New Orleans after the Saints game.
The incident occurred around 4:27 p.m. at the intersection of Loyola Avenue and Girod Street as the motorcycle deputy was the trailing unit in a convoy escorting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' team bus to the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport after the game, according to The Times-Picayune.
Officials said the motorcycle deputy was making a right turn from Girod Street onto Loyola Avenue and did not see a deputy who was standing in the street directing traffic. The deputy attempted to lay his bike down, but was unable to avoid striking the deputy.
"He actually clipped him, knocked the officer to the ground, and the motorcycle officer fell off the bike but was uninjured," Col. John Fortunato told the newspaper.
The deputy was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a head contusion and his injures were not considered to be life-threatening.
The motorcycle deputy was uninjured in the collision.
