Video: Dallas Officers Lift Vehicle Off Woman
Dallas police officers, firefighters and bystanders worked together to save a woman trapped under a car following a crash earlier this month and the rescue was captured on video.
Surveillance video from a nearby business and a cruiser's dashboard camera captured the scene from the night of July 9 on Greenville Avenue, according to KTVT.
Police said a woman was riding a motorcycle when a man driving a Nissan Ultima in the same direction made a move from the left to the right lane and collided with the woman. The impact sent her flying off the motorcycle and under the vehicle.
Officials said the the low hanging under carriage of the vehicle kept her from moving and her helmet was wedged to the ground.
Officers Laura Beddow, William Mathis and Jason Henrichs were the first to arrive on the scene.
"All we saw was her arm, so we tried to make sure she was stil alive, still breathing until (Dallas Fire Rescue) got there," Beddow told the news station.
Initially, the officers tried to use a jack to lift up the car and relieve the pressure on the woman, but it didn't work. At that point, the woman was slipping in and out of consciousness.
"I just wanted to keep talking to her, keep trying to reassure her we’re going to get help. Help was on the way. We're going to get her out of there," Mathis said.
As more people arrived, the group made the decision to move the car on their own.
In one quick motion, the dash cam video shows the group lifting up one side of the car.
Beddow and another first responder were able to pull the woman to safety.
She was transported to Baylor Hospital serious injuries and is now recovering at home.
