As Iowa State Patrol trooper had a close call Sunday morning when he saw a tractor-trailer in the rearview mirror of his cruiser barreling toward his vehicle.
Trooper Tracy Bohlen was helping with traffic control on I-80 after a fiery wreck when his patrol car was sideswiped by the truck, according to The Des Moines Register.
"I felt the impact -- the whole car shook," Bohlen told the newspaper. "The rear-view mirror was fully filled with that semi... It's definitely something I haven't ever seen before."
The 22-year veteran of the force was uninjured after the tractor-trailer sideswiped the left rear side of his squad car.
Bohlen was one of five other patrol cars blocking two lanes of traffic on westbound Interstate 80 after an apparent hit-and-run crash that occurred around 6:12 a.m.
Bohlen said when he saw the truck coming at him, he worried that his cruiser would get caught under it and that it would tip over and trap him.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was able to straighten out the rig before he hit the cruiser.
The truck's driver, Arny Modou, was charged with unsafe approach to an emergency vehicle.
