A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was wounded and the gunman was fatally shot at a gas station in Cocoa West Sunday night.
The trooper attempted to talk to a driver after he spotted an equipment violation on a pickup truck at the Pilot gas station at 4445 West King Street around 7:40 p.m. when the shooting occurred, according to Florida Today.
Brevard County Sheriff's Office Cpl. David Jacobs told the newspaper that one of the people in the truck got out and shot the trooper in the shoulder and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The trooper returned fire, fatally wounding the man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman who was in the truck was taken into custody for questioning.
