A Mount Pleasant, S.C. police officer rescued a man from a burning vehicle over the weekend.
Cpl. Adam Willis was on patrol on Coleman Boulevard around 4:40 a.m. on May 30 when he a call come over the radio about a burning car at Vickery's Bar and Grill on Shrimp Boat Lane, according to WCIV-TV.
The 10-year veteran's dashcam captured the entire rescue as he pulled into the parking lot, exited his cruiser and ran to the burning 2003 BMW with a fire extinguisher to put it out.
Willis quickly realized there was an unconscious man inside the vehicle and opened the door and pulled him out. "You don't do much thinking when you're in it," he told the news station. "The only thing I could think of before I grabbed him was, 'Please don't be dead.' That's the only thing."
The officer guided the man to safety and EMS and fire crews arrived to take control of the fire and treat the man.
The man, who police determined to be "extremely intoxicated," had no memory of his car being on fire or being inside of the burning car. He was transported to a local hospital and released about an hour later.
Firefighters told Willis the man likely would have died had he been in the car a minute or two longer.
