Cpl. James Keane was on patrol in Tsikamu Village on May 15 when he spotted flames coming from a home, according to KRQE-TV.

"Just happened to see it," he told the news station. "Right place, right time."

Keane can be seen on the video jumping out of his police cruiser and running toward the huge house fire.

The officer went into the burning structure after bystanders told him that there was a man still inside.

"When I first got into the house, the smoke was overwhelming," he said. "I took one breath of it and I knew I didn’t want to be in there very long."

He found Nat Farnham unconscious in the bedroom where he had been sleeping, but could tell he was still alive. Keane can be seen on the video pulling the man out of the burning home with the help of bystanders.

Nat's wife, Vicki, was able to get out of the house on her own after the dogs woke her up. The couple was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital's burn unit and have since been released.

“I burnt my lungs and I’ll just never be the same, but we all got out alive,” Nat said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
