Pennsylvania Officer Shot, Suspect Killed

A Lancaster officer was shot after gunfire was exchanged as police attempted to serve a warrant.

A Lancaster, Pa. police officer was shot and the suspected gunman was killed Tuesday afternoon.

Police officers were attempting to serve a warrant at an apartment at 305 E. Chestnut Street shortly before 1 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to The Lancaster New Era.

The wounded police officer was transported to Lancaster General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Lt. Todd Umstead told reporters that the officer is alert and awake and the injury appears to be non-life threatening.

Umstead said that police received a call that there was a wanted man at the apartment and officers went there to serve the warrant.

The names of the wounded officer and the dead gunman were not immediately released.
