A Choctaw County Sheriff's deputy and a Hugo police officer were wounded and a suspect was killed in a shootout Thursday.
Deputy Jeff Eppley and Sgt. Steve Babcock were shot multiple times in a confrontation with Joseph pots outside a home on CR4430 around 9:30 a.m., according to KTEN-TV.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said that Potts shot at his neighbors home about 200 yards from where he lives around 5:30 a.m.
"He never did come out, he started shooting at officers as they approached the residence," Special Agent Jenny Virden said.
Gunfire was exchanged before the man set fire to his home and walked outside before reaching for deputy's gun. Potts was wounded and died at the scene.
The two law enforcement officers were transported to local hospitals. Babcock was listed in critical, but stable condition while Eppley's injuries were not considered life-threatening. They are both expected to survive.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
