Maryland Police Officer Critically Wounded

Anne Arundel County police are searching for a gunman after an officer was shot Friday morning.

An Anne Arundel County, Md. police are searching for a gunman after an officer was shot and critically wounded early Friday morning.

Officials said the shooting occurred around 2:20 a.m. near a 7-Eleven along College Parkway in Arnold, just miles west of the Bay Bridge, according to WJLA-TV.

Department Spokesman Lt. T. J. Smith said the officer made contact with a man after someone reported a suspicious person in the area. Both the suspect and the officer ran away from the 7-Eleven and witnesses then heard gunshots.

Responding officers found the officer suffering from a gunshot wound. The officer was taken to Shock Trauma at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore and was listed in critical condition.

The suspect is described as a black male with dark skin, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall to 5 feet and 8 inches tall, between the ages of 20 and 30 years old, wearing dark pants (not jeans) and a black hoodie. Officials said he is considered armed and dangerous.
