RALEIGH, N.C. -- A state trooper was hurt Monday evening when a car pulled in front of his cruiser while he was chasing a motorcyclist suspected of reckless driving, the State Highway Patrol said.
Trooper Jack Thorpe suffered minor injuries when his cruiser hit the median on northbound Lake Wheeler Road. He had swerved to avoid a car that was coming off an exit ramp from Interstate 40 and was turning onto Lake Wheeler Road, officials said.
The trooper's car wound up against the curb on the southbound side of Lake Wheeler.
A patrol spokesman, Lt. Jeff Gordon, said Thorpe did not appear to be seriously hurt but was taken to WakeMed Hospital to be checked by doctors.
The motorcycle that the trooper was chasing fled and was last seen on Bloodworth Street near South Street.
The motorcycle was described as a red sports bike. The driver was described only as a black man, about 280 pounds and wearing a black vest that bore a white insignia on the back.
Troopers asked that anyone with information that might help them locate the motorcycle or its driver call the Highway Patrol at 919-733-3861.
