A lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office suffered a fatal heart attack while stopping a reckless driver on Aug. 12.
Lt. Patrick Libertone was walking back to his cruiser he after made contact with the driver when he collapsed on the sidewalk, according to reports.
Officials said that the 13-year veteran pulled over the driver who had cut him off in the Riverside area.
An off-duty paramedic immediately began to render aid but was unable to revive him.
He was transported to Corona Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Libertone, who was assigned to the Fraud and Cyber Crimes Bureau, is survived by his wife and four children.
