An Ada County Sheriff's sergeant on patrol was hit by an oncoming SUV on Idaho 44 at Seneca Springs, east of Star, at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday night.
Holden Falk, 18, of Emmett was headed east on the highway when his 2001 Ford Explorer crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria driven by sheriff's Sgt. Mike Fratusco, according to a report from the Idaho State Police.
Both Falk and Fratusco were taken to Saint Alphonsus Eagle for treatment.
The highway was shut down for about two hours between Seneca Springs and Plummer while Idaho State Police investigated the crash. ISP reports the street reopened a little after 11 p.m.
The sheriff's sergeant was treated and released at a local hospital, and officials said Falk is expected to be OK.
State police are investigating what caused the crash.
