At least five people were killed Sunday night after a suspect ran a stop sign and slammed into another vehicle during a high-speed chase with the Dickinson Police.

According to investigators, the chase began about 8:20 p.m. when an officer tried to pull over a Dodge Durango in Dickinson because the driver was swerving and not using headlights. The suspect reached speeds of 100 miles per hour before hitting a vehicle at Deats and Ohio streets in League City.

"He was going so fast my guy couldn't keep up," Dickinson Police Capt. J. Jaekel told the Galveston Daily News.

The Durango continued north on Ohio Street, where the driver ran a stop sign and slammed into another SUV on FM 646. The Durango proceeded to hit a utility pole, knocking power out in the area, police said.

Nobody in either SUV survived the crash at 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of FM 646 and Ohio Street, League City police spokeswoman Reagan Pena said.

FM 646 was closed to all traffic as investigators from League City Police, the Galveston County District Attorney and the Texas Department of Public Safety worked the scene.
