EDMOND, Okla. -- An Edmond cop has reunited a stolen ring commemorating a high school football championship with its owner, an incident report stated.
Edmond Police Officer Matthew Harden was recently dispatched to check for drug activity in the vicinity of a restaurant located in the zero block of East 33rd Street, Harden stated in his incident report. A witness reported seeing two white males smoking marijuana in a parked vehicle, Harden stated.
Harden stated he located the vehicle parked at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Wynn Drive and he detected an odor he knew to be marijuana through his training and experience.
He received permission to pat search one of the males and during the search he located a Blanchard football state championship ring from 2012, Harden stated. He asked who the ring belonged to and saw the name engraved on the inside of the ring along with "Blanchard 28, Kingfisher 21," Harden stated.
Phone numbers for the victim provided by the Blanchard Police Department were both disconnected, the report stated. No arrests were made at that time.
On a later day, Harden stated, he spoke to the male who possessed the ring in the 1700 block of East Second Street. Under questioning, the male said he did not own the ring, Harden stated. He had the male sign an affidavit of non-ownership and released him, Harden stated.
He then began searching for the victim, calling a friend who lives in Blanchard, Harden stated. He got a call from the victim who said he didn't realize his ring was missing, and the last time he knew he had it was about a week earlier, Harden stated.
After going to the victim's home and photographing the ring, Harden released it to him, the report stated. The victim said he was also missing an All-State ring, and his friend was missing a backpack from a truck, the report stated.
The ring was valued at $450, the report stated.
Harden stated he was preparing to file an out-of-custody receiving stolen property complaint against the 20-year-old suspect.
