Two men were wounded -- one critically -- in a double shooting Wednesday outside a busy recreation center in the city's West Oak Lane section, police said.
Gunfire erupted about 4:45 p.m. near the basketball courts at the Simons Recreation Center, in the 1600 block of East Walnut Lane, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
The two victims were reportedly playing basketball with about 30 other people on the courts before they were shot, Small said. About 20 adults and children were around nearby playground equipment.
At least 11 shots were fired from two different types of handguns from a walkway leading to the basketball courts, Small said.
One victim, an 18-year-old man, was shot in the groin, Small said. He was taken by police to Einstein Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
The second victim, a 19-year-old man, was shot in the right thigh and taken by a medic unit to Einstein, where he was reported in stable condition.
The two gunmen were last seen running from the scene in different directions, Small said. No suspects have been identified.
