A Puyallup man struck a police car Tuesday during a pursuit that stemmed from a domestic violence incident.
Officers were called to a home in the 2800 block of Fifth Street Southeast just before 10 a.m. to break up a fight between a 65-year-old woman and her 47-year-old son.
The son, who allegedly hurt himself with an unidentified weapon, fled the home as police arrived. Officers chased him through the Forest Green neighborhood. As the man approached the intersection at Forest Green Boulevard and 23rd Avenue Southwest, he turned left and hit a patrol car. The patrol car had its lights and sirens on at the time of the crash, Capt. Scott Engle said.
Officers arrested the man and both he and the officer who was struck were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries. The officer is a 26-year veteran with the department.
Police closed 23rd Avenue Southeast between 20th Street Southeast and Forest Green Boulevard for several hours while they investigated the accident.
