Amanda C. Walters was sentenced Monday to two months of probation for helping a man escape arrest days before he killed a Lower Burrell police officer in a shootout.
Walters, 25, pleaded guilty in March to felony charges of hindering apprehension and conspiracy for aiding Charlie Post after he was accused of attempted murder in a New Kensington shooting. Ten days later he gunned down Derek Kotecki, a Lower Burrell officer, at a Dairy Queen, authorities say.
Ms. Walters and her aunt, Nicole Walters -- a onetime girlfriend of Post, police say -- admitted to giving the accused food, money and other items.
In sentencing Walters, Westmoreland County Judge Richard McCormick Jr. ordered her to be subject to drug and alcohol testing and mental evaluation, for which she will bear costs. Judge McCormick also ordered her to have no contact with the family of Mr. Kotecki, who was shot fatally in the gunfight with Post.
Post killed himself during the standoff.
