A teen in a stolen car led Pittsburgh police on a chase during rush hour on Thursday afternoon that wound through the Hill District, Uptown and Downtown, causing several crashes.
The only injury reported in the chase that began at 4:27 p.m. was the 17-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle, who was treated for three Taser punctures and a cut over his right eye, Pittsburgh Public Information Officer Sonya M. Toler said.
A 20-year-old woman who was with the teen was not charged, Toler said.
The chase began when an officer spotted the stolen car on Bedford Avenue and tried to pull it over. Instead, the vehicle sped away, Toler said.
The pursuit was soon called off to prevent numerous pedestrians from being injured, Toler said.
The car, which was seen going in the wrong direction on at least one occasion, crashed into a one vehicle at Forbes Avenue and Ross Street, and a second near Ross and Second Avenue before ricocheting into a third, forcing that vehicle into the rear of a fourth car, Toler said.
The teen bailed out of the stolen car and ran, but was caught near Fort Pitt Boulevard and Cherry Way, Toler said.
After being treated at the hospital, he was sent to Shuman Juvenile Detention Center on a variety of charges, Toler said.
