Marion County Deputy Derrick Ramseyer and Cadet Brianna Luna-Garcia sustained minor injuries.

Marion County Sheriff's Office identified two people injured in a crash on Interstate 5 on Sunday as an 8-year veteran and a cadet.

The sheriff's office said Deputy Derrick Ramseyer, who was driving, and Cadet Brianna Luna-Garcia, 20, who was in the front seat, are recovering from minor injuries in the accident which happened about 8:40 a.m. on I-5 north near Portland Road.

Ramseyer was responding to a call to help officers who had spotted a felony assault suspect in a field near the freeway north of Salem when the vehicle hit standing water, said Lt. Gregg Hastings, spokesman for Oregon State Police.

The patrol car hydroplaned, crossed the center median into the southbound lanes and hit a concrete roadside wall and sign before coming to rest on its wheels on the right southbound shoulder, Hastings said.

OSP is investigating at the request of Marion County Sheriff's Office, Hastings said.
