Responding Alabama Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Crash

A Covington County, Ala. Sheriff's deputy died Friday morning in a wreck while responding to a crash.

Deputy Heath Kelley, was en route to the reported crash on Highway 55 in Libertyville around 7:40 a.m. when his vehicle and another collided, according to The Mobile Press-Register.

Kelley and the driver in the other vehicle were both taken to Andalusia Regional Hospital, where the deputy was pronounced dead.

"He was one of the most sincere and hardworking deputies I had," Chief Deputy David Anderson told the newspaper.

The 46-year-old deputy spend eight years with the agency and spent five of those years working at the county jail before moving to cover roads.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
