The K-9 underwent surgery for several hours to amputate his left front leg, according to a sheriff's office social media post. On Sunday, Ace was released from the veternairy clinic, and the sheriff's office released video of the event.

"Upon waking from the anesthesia, Ace attempted to walk out of there," the sheriff's office stated. "He has not been deterred since. In fact he outran the camera attempting to film his release this afternoon!"

The suspect in the incident was fatally shot by deputies. Sheriff Grady Judd credited Ace with saving the lives of the responding deputies.

"Thank you well and faithful servant, Ace," the sheriff's office stated. " You are SUCH a good boy. We love you and will always remember your service and your sacrifice."
