ROSEVILLE, California -- A Placer County Sheriff's K-9 was wounded and a gunman was fatally shot during a confrontation on a highway Tuesday night.
The sheriff's dispatch center began receiving several 911 calls reporting a man brandishing a weapon and firing shots shortly after 7 p.m., according to a news release.
The reported incidents occurred at several locations between Loomis and Newcastle. Two victims were shot at in two separate locations and one of the gunshot victims died.
The suspect was located driving on Interstate 80 near Highway 65, where he was confronted by officers and deputies. This resulted in an officer-involved shooting and the suspect was fatally wounded.
A Placer County Sheriff's K-9 that was shot during the incident. The dog was treated for its wounds and is expected to recover.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide and the incidents in south Placer County that led up to the officer-involved shooting.
The Roseville Police Department will be investigating the officer-involved shooting as it occurred within the city limits of Roseville.
