BAYTOWN, Texas -- A wanted woman stabbed a Baytown police K-9 near both of the dog's eyes during an attempt to apprehend her Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to a travel trailer in the 100 block of South Flamingo Bright Street around 3:58 p.m. in an attempt to locate 23-year-old Abigail Martinez, who was wanted on outstanding felony drug charges, according to a news release.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers contacted two people standing outside, who did not live at the location. One of those people indicated that Martinez was inside the residence. Officers could hear a lot of movement inside the trailer and started giving commands for Martinez to exit the trailer, however she refused.

After several attempts to get Ms. Martinez to exit the trailer with no success, officers approached the front door of the trailer to make entry in an attempt to locate her. The door was unlocked and upon opening the door they observed a male, later identified as as the woman's uncle, 40-year-old Felipe Martinez, laying on the couch.

Officers gave commands for the man to exit the trailer to which he complied and was detained. At one point he attempted to convince his niece to come out however she continued to refuse.

At this point, a Cpl. Jeremy Stevens retrieved K-9 X and approached the front door of the trailer and began announcing his presence and the fact that the K-9 would be deployed if the woman did not comply. After that attempt was unsuccessful, the K-9 was deployed as it quickly located the suspect hiding under several blankets and pillows.

As X attempted to engage the suspect, she jabbed at the K-9 with what was determined to be a hard plastic handle to an eye brow brush, approximately 5 inches in length. The officers quickly took the suspect into custody with no further incident.

The K-9 Handler examined his K-9 partner and determined he had two puncture wounds under his eyes as a result of the attack.

The K-9 was treated at a local Vet for his injuries and returned to duty.

Martinez was transported to the Baytown Jail where she was booked on the felony drug warrant and also charged with Felony Interference with a Police Service Dog for her assault on the K-9.

Martinez was found to have outstanding local traffic warrants and was also placed under arrest and transported to the Baytown Jail.
