A Boscawen, New Hampshire police dog who was bitten in the head by a suspect during an attempted arrest is back on the job.
K-9 Veda joined officers as they surrounded a home on Jan. 21 at 1 Corn Hill Road after a report of a shooting, according to WMUR-TV.
Police soon discovered that Justin Santagati was hiding in a trailer in the backyard.
"He was secreting himself underneath some clothes and different items in the trailer," Sgt. Mark Hall told the news station.
After unsuccessfully negotiating with the suspect to have him surrender, the decision was made to send in Veda. A struggle then ensued between the man and the dog.
"He put up a little bit of a fight with the dog, got her in a headlock and bit her on the top of the head during that struggle," Hall said.
Trooper Daniel Livingstone, Veda's handler, also got involved in the struggle and was assaulted by Santagati.
A stun gun was eventually on Santagati and was taken into custody.
Veda was treated for her wounds and Livingstone suffered no injuries.
Santagati is facing several charges, including assault on a police dog.
