A man wanted in a string of shootings violently struggled with Florida police trying to arrest the suspect last month, recently released body camera footage shows.
Cocoa police had located 36‑year‑old Dennard Isiah Barnes on Feb. 20 after tracking a white van tied to several violent crimes, including two fatal shootings in South Florida earlier that day, WPLG-TV reports. Detectives said the Barnes also had been sought in an attempted murder case in Brevard County.
Body camera footage from the arrest shows the van driving past officers before the driver jumps out and runs toward a nearby home. Police said Barnes tried to get inside the house while shouting for someone to let him in.
In the video, officers order Barnes to the ground, but he refuses to comply and remains standing. Officers deploy Tasers and wrestle him to the ground as a K‑9 unit arrives to help with the arrest.
Once subdued, Barnes was handcuffed and taken into custody. Investigators said he knew the victims involved in the shootings, but the motive behind the violence remains unclear.
