An Ohio woman allegedly drunk on hand sanitizer is accused of punching a police officer during a domestic disturbance call and later shattered a jail holding cell window last week.
The incident happened Feb. 16 when Canton police responded to a report of a domestic dispute, WOIO-TV reports. When police reached the scene, a family member met officers outside and tell them about a clash between an 18-year-old woman—identfied as Jade Cain—and her boyfriend.
The two soon came outside, and Cain began arguing with her boyfriend's relatives. Body camera footage captured the confrontation.
As the Cain continued to argue, police observed that she appeared to be impaired, and a person at the scene can be heard saying that "she's drunk." Officers later found out that she had drunk hand sanitizer, which can be as strong as 120 proof alcohol, Poison Control told WOIO.
Police began to de-escalate the situation, and an officer separated Cain from her boyfriend and relatives. Cain went limp and dropped to the ground, but the officer was able to get her into a cruiser.
Once inside the vehicle, Cain told the officer that she lost her shoe before allegedly punching him in the face. Police quickly got her into the cruiser, and she was taken to Stark County Jail.
Cain's violent actions continued at the jail, where she was accused of repeatedly kicking a door and hitting her head against it. She then slipped a hand out of her cuffs and used them the shatter the glass of a holding cell.
Cain faces charges of assaulting a peace officer and vandalism. She is set to appear in court on Feb. 24.
