Body camera footage captured a gunman accused of firing shots at an LAPD helicopter before clashing with officers, who arrested him.

In November, police responded to a call about an assault in the Gardena area, KABC-TV reports. When officers reached the scene, they found a 57-year-old man—identified as Anthony Whitsey—armed with a pistol who fired three to five shots at a helicopter overhead.

Officers ordered Whitsey to drop his weapon, but he refused. That's when police opened fire.

Whitsey wasn't shot, and he dropped his gun before being struck by a less-lethal weapon fired by police. He retreated into a home and refused to surrender.

A SWAT and K-9 units responded to the incident, and a dog was deployed when Whitsey was barricaded himself in the house. He was finally taken into custody and was taken to the hospital for a dog bite.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Once Whitesey was treated for his injuries, he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
