RAYMOND, WI — The woman who died in a house fire in Raymond on Monday has been identified as 38-year-old Jenna Zuehlke of Milwaukee, according to the Racine County Sheriff's Office.
Raymond Fire and Rescue was sent to the 2000 block of 108th Street at 2:52 p.m.
According to a news release from RFR, smoke was showing and an assistant chief confirmed two people were trapped in the house, the woman and a child.
The assistant chief and a Norway Police officer made an initial rescue attempt, but were overcome by smoke and had to exit the house.
An RCSO deputy made another attempt and was able to remove the child from the home, according to the release.
Arriving fire crews searched the home and found a woman. After she was removed, life-saving measures were conducted, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The child was taken a a hospital, and was in stable condition as of Monday night, according to RFR.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages, according to RFR.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.
As of Wednesday, the fire did not appear to be criminal in nature, according to a news release from RCSO.
"These first responders displayed extraordinary courage under life-threatening conditions," Racine County Sheriff Schmaling said. "Their actions absolutely saved a little girl's life. Lastly, we extend our deepest condolences to the Zuehlke family."
