Bodycam: Mass. Police Officer, Fire Deputy Save Driver with Burning Car 'Exploding Around Them'

A Massachusetts police officer and a fire deputy pulled a driver from a burning car Wednesday as the vehicle was "exploding around them."

The rescue involving a Hardwick-New Braintree police detective happened at around 8:15 p.m. in Hardwick. The department released body camera footage of the incident over the weekend.

The detective was responding to a 9-1-1 call concerning a car that had struck a tree and caught fire. While the detective was on the way to the scene, an update indicated that the driver was still trapped inside the burning vehicle.

Once at the scene, the detective and a Hardwick fire deputy began working to get the driver out of the car and flames.

"They were able to gain entry into the car and extricate the driver from the vehicle as it was exploding around them," Police Chief Kevin Landine stated in a social media post.
