New body camera footage captured a violent clash in August between Las Vegas police and a shoplifting suspect that led to the officer being dragged by a fleeing car.

The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. Aug. 1 when police responded to a retail theft report at a Target store, KLAS-TV reports. A woman, her daughter and two teenage girls were caught on security camera footage placing clothing into bags before leaving the store without paying.

When Officer Chadly Dingle confronted the woman, she began to fight with the officer as she tried to flee on foot. The struggle continued as the woman reached a vehicle, and Dingle was pushed into the backseat of the car.

Video footage shows Dingle's legs hanging outside the vehicle as it sped through the parking lot. Another officer tried to block the vehicle with his cruiser, and both vehicles were struck by a box truck.

Dingle was hanging outside of the car when the crash happened, and he told a grand jury that he was "just trying to survive." He suffered a herniated lower disk and injuries to his shoulder and knee from the incident, and he has since recovered.

The officer in the cruiser also was injured in the incident. He also was taken to the hospital and has recovered.

The woman was taken into custody, and she faces multiple felony charges, including resisting a public officer with the use of a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping. She was indicted by a grand jury, and her trial is set for April 2026.

The three teens also face charges.
