Georgia police officers and other first responders helped evacuate apartment complex residents from flooding over the weekend, carrying some individuals in order to get them to safety.
Covington police responded to flooding at the Covington Housing Authority at around 9 a.m. Sunday, WXIA-TV reports. A nearby lake had started to overflow its banks, and rising water—which had measured 2 to 4 feet by the time first responders arrived—threatened parked cars and residences' front porches.
Because of concerns that the lake's dam would give way, officials decided to evacuate the nearly 50 apartments, according to WSB-TV. In body camera footage from the scene, officer's from the department's C-shift, as well as city firefighters, can be seen leading apartment residents to safety and carrying those who needed extra assistance.
"C-Shift performed exceptionally, assisting residents with care—including physically carrying individuals through rising water to ensure their safety," the department stated.
