A Pierce County sheriff’s deputy used a lasso to capture a 32-year-old man over the weekend after the man allegedly threatened his parents with a chainsaw.
Neighbors reported that at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of State Route 702 East near Roy a man was chasing his father in a yard with a chainsaw. The son had been in an argument and allegedly was threatening both of his parents with the chainsaw, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
The post said the man jumped into an nearby pond after deputies arrived and tried to de-escalate the situation. He refused to come out.
“Negotiations went on for about 40 minutes before deputies retrieved a 40 mm beanbag shotgun and a trusty lasso,” the post said.
A deputy used the lasso to secure the man and drag him back to shore, the post said.
The man was taken to a local hospital for mental health services, and his family also received resources.
