OVERLAND, MO — An Overland police officer shot a motorist who resisted arrest on a gas station parking lot Sunday, authorities said.
Police said the officer and the driver both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They did not divulge how the officer was hurt.
The shooting was about 7:45 a.m. Sunday in the 10700 block of Page Avenue in Overland. Overland police asked St. Louis County detectives to investigate the shooting.
The officer had stopped a vehicle on the parking lot of a gas station there. Authorities have not said why the officer stopped him, other than to call it "an investigative stop." (Editor's note: Police made the stop because of an alert about a white 2015 Chevrolet Sonic wanted in connection with the aggravated battery of a police officer in Illinois.)
The driver, a 28-year-old man, "resisted and was shot by the officer," according to St. Louis County police. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The officer was also taken to a hospital for treatment, though authorities have not described his injuries.
The officer, 25, has been an officer one year.
